• The two workable (High-Speed) solutions are the satellite-based system from Echo-Star and the local service from Barrier Free
• Last was Barrier Free's first year and it was a mess until about July. Then it straightened out and worked fine afterward.
• I am using the Barrier Free system to day-trade and it has been pretty reliable

• I use the Verizon cellular approach (Dial-Up), approved by my company for VPN, and it works file
• I do largely email and some Word and Excel files but I have found it satisfactory.
• I have used it for the past 2 years very successfully, both in Davis and in the Ridge locations
• I understand that if you are using larger files you may need to consider
  installing a large satellite on your roof (High-Speed) 
• All others I know of require installation on your house, whereas Verizon is a card that attaches to your computer

• I've been using the Verizon card (Dial-Up) for two years very successfully
• I work from the beach all summer
• The speed varies with the strength of the signal, but it is still works much better than a dial-up connection

• My cellular wireless card (Dial-Up) is useless at the beach
• If you have a house your best bet would be to have a DSL wireless modem (High-Speed) installed via your standard phone line and then you would have around a 100 foot range around your modem where you could use your wireless lap top

• I have tried a variety of alternatives and found Verizon wireless card (Dial-Up) for my laptop to be the best at my location
• There are two types of Verizon wireless cards and I recommend the more expense version because it comes with a few feet of wire and an external antenna
• I get speeds that are better than DSL but not as fast as cable speeds
